About GameScrubber

Clean games. Same adventure.

GameScrubber makes free clean-language patches for PC games. Each one finds the profanity in a game's English dialogue, audio, and on-screen text and quietly filters it, while leaving the story, the performances, the music, and the gameplay exactly as the developer made them. It's an optional, cleaner way to play a game you already own — not a different game, and not a judgement on anyone who plays the original.

Who makes it

GameScrubber is an independent, one-person project run by Clive Bixby. There's no studio and no team behind it — just a player who wanted to enjoy some great, story-heavy games with the language toned down, and who got tired of reaching for the mute button or skipping titles entirely. Every patch on this site is built, tested, and documented by hand (with the help of automation where the scale demands it), then written up so you know exactly what you're applying before you download it.

Why it exists

Plenty of people love a game's world, characters, and writing but would rather not sit through the strong language — players streaming to an audience, parents and roommates within earshot, or anyone who simply prefers less of it. The games themselves rarely offer a language toggle. GameScrubber fills that gap: a repeatable, careful way to filter the words without altering anything else, applied to your own copy and reversible at any time.

How a patch is made

Every patch goes through the same pipeline: the game's files are documented, scanned for English profanity across text and voice, edited so each flagged word is silenced in audio or masked in text, reviewed, applied to a backed-up copy, and then verified in-game before release. Nothing ships until it has been launched and checked. Our standards

A few principles hold for every release:

• We tell you exactly what changed — and what didn't. Every patch page lists the surfaces it covers and spells out what is left untouched. The "what was not changed" note is there on purpose: it's the most important thing for anyone deciding whether to apply a patch.
• Every number is a measured number. When a page says a patch edits a specific count of voice lines or text entries, that figure comes from the actual build, not an estimate.
• We state the limits. The patches filter English only; text and audio in other languages are left exactly as the game shipped them. Where a surface isn't covered, we say so rather than imply total coverage.
• You own the game; you're in control. You apply our patches to your own legally-owned games, and you can restore the originals whenever you like.
• We're upfront about automation. Matching language across many thousands of lines isn't realistic by hand, so parts of the process are automated, including AI tools. Every patch is still tested before it goes out.

What we don't do

GameScrubber filters language and nothing else — it doesn't change gore, nudity, or any other content, and it doesn't rewrite a game's story or make a mature game suitable for everyone. We don't sell or host games; you bring your own installed copy. And we don't claim a patch is risk-free or legally settled — we describe how the patches work and leave the rest to each game's own terms.
