How It Works
GameScrubber makes your favorite PC games family-friendlier. Our free patches remove profanity and other offensive content while preserving the original gameplay experience.
Own the Game
You must own a legitimate copy of the game on PC (Steam, GOG, Epic, etc.).
Download the Patch
Get the patch from our site and apply it to your installation.
Play Cleaner
Launch the game and enjoy a cleaner experience — same gameplay, cleaner content.
Our Patch-Only Model
GameScrubber patches modify the files in your own game installation. Wherever possible the download includes no game files at all — the patch re-creates the edits on your own copy. Some games can only be filtered by shipping edited copies of their files, which you apply to a game you already own. Each patch's page says which model it uses.
You own the game. We just help you play it cleaner.
What a patch changes — and what it doesn't
A patch works on two surfaces: the words you read and the words you hear. On-screen text — subtitles, menus, journals — has each flagged word masked in place with same-length characters, so the sentence around it, its punctuation, and the layout never shift. Spoken lines are silenced only across the flagged word; the rest of the performance plays exactly as recorded, and the clip stays the same length, so nothing falls out of sync. The original audio is quieted in the right spots — no lines are re-recorded or AI-generated.
Everything outside the language is left alone: the story, the characters, the music, the mechanics, and your saves. The patches filter English only, so text and audio in other languages are untouched. Each patch covers different surfaces depending on the game — some filter on-screen text only, others also silence the voice-over — and every patch's page lists exactly what it covers and what it leaves as the developer shipped it.
Installing is designed to be beginner-proof. Most patches back up your original files automatically before changing anything and can restore them with a click; others are a simple file copy you can undo from a backup. Either way you stay in control, and verifying your game files through your store will always return you to the original. A game update can overwrite a patch — if that happens, just reapply it — and each patch page shows the exact game build it was verified against and the date it was checked.
Curious how the patches are made? The methodology page walks through the full build-and-test process step by step.
Will this change gameplay?
No. Our patches only remove or replace profanity and other offensive text or audio. Gameplay, levels, and mechanics stay exactly the same.
Do I need to own the game?
Yes. You must own a legitimate copy of the game on PC. Our patches will not work without the original game files.
What happens when my game updates?
Some updates may overwrite patched files. If that happens, simply reapply the patch. We do our best to keep patches up to date.
