About this filter
Night City has one of the foulest mouths in gaming. Cyberpunk 2077 is a mature action-RPG built on dense, fast, naturalistic dialogue, and its English script leans hard on strong language: street thugs, fixers, corpos, ripperdocs, and the radio hosts who narrate your drive across town all swear constantly, often several times in a single line. That texture is part of the world CD PROJEKT RED built, but it also puts the game out of reach for people who would rather play without a steady stream of the F-word, the S-word, and religious oaths in their ears and on screen. This filter is for players who already own Cyberpunk 2077 and want to keep the story, the city, and the performances while turning the language down — parents sharing a screen, streamers under platform rules, and anyone who simply prefers it that way.
This patch works on the two surfaces where the profanity actually reaches you: spoken voice and on-screen text, English only. On the audio side, 11,888 spoken lines are silenced at the exact word — the F-word, S-word, B-word, A-word, D-word, and religious oaths are muted while the rest of each line and the full performance play normally, radio host and DJ chatter included. On the text side, 22,077 words are masked with asterisks across subtitles, menus, shards, and on-screen text, using full-word masking with no first-letter hint. Deity names and place names used in genuine lore context are left alone so the world still reads correctly. Sung radio lyrics are not filtered, and mature content beyond language — violence, themes, sexual situations — is left exactly as the studio shipped it.
The filter was built by reading the game's English locale strings and Wwise voice data, flagging the target words against a maintained list, masking the text and muting only the flagged spans in the audio, then repacking the results into two override archives. Those two files, Edited Text.archive and Edited Voice.archive, drop into the game's sanctioned mod folder; no base game files are touched, and removing the filter is simply deleting those two files. The edited assets were re-scanned to confirm the flagged words were caught and the game launches and plays normally with them in place. Everything outside the flagged words is untouched: the story, script, missions, voice performances, music and sound effects, gameplay, saves, achievements, and progression all stay as released, and non-English text and audio are left exactly as shipped.
What Was Changed
- English voice: 11,888 spoken lines silenced at the exact word — the F-word, S-word, B-word, A-word, D-word, and religious oaths. The rest of each line and the full performance play normally. Includes radio host and DJ talk.
- English text: 22,077 words masked with asterisks (full-word, no first-letter hint) across subtitles, menus, shards, and on-screen text. Deity names and place names used in lore context are left alone.
What Was NOT Changed
The story, script, missions, and voice performances are exactly as CD PROJEKT RED shipped them — only the flagged words change. Radio songs (sung lyrics) are not filtered. Violence, themes, and mature content beyond language are untouched. Music and sound effects are untouched. Gameplay, saves, achievements, and progression are not affected. Non-English text and audio are left exactly as shipped — the filter is English only. No base game files are modified; the filter adds two override files to the mod folder and nothing else.
