About this filter
Deathloop is Arkane Lyon's first-person time-loop shooter, set on the island of Blackreef where the assassin Colt trades sharp, profanity-laced banter with his rival Julianna across the same repeating day. The dialogue is fully voiced through Audiokinetic Wwise and leans hard on raised-voice combat barks and trash talk, so the strongest language tends to arrive unpredictably mid-fight. This filter is for players who own the game and want to keep the loop's pace, style, and stealth-action tension while toning down the harshest English language — useful for shared living rooms, streaming, or anyone who simply prefers a cleaner script. It is an opt-in adjustment you apply to your own copy, not a change to anyone else's experience. The filter covers the English dialogue and on-screen English text only; the 14 text and 10 audio non-English locales the game ships are left untouched.
The patch works on two surfaces at once. On the audio side it processes 1,046 English voice lines: within each flagged line the offending word is silenced while the surrounding speech and the actor's performance are left intact, and the line is re-encoded to the game's original Wwise format at the same clip length so timing never drifts. On the text side it applies 319 censors in the game's main string table — scripted dialogue, notes, UI, and graffiti — plus 820 more across the scene and combat-bark subtitles, for a total of 1,139 on-screen replacements. Each flagged word is overwritten in place with same-length asterisks covering the full word, so sentence structure, punctuation, fonts, and line layout stay exactly as shipped. The categories addressed are sexual swearing, scatological language, and crude anatomical terms; religious exclamations are deliberately left in place via context rules, since in this game they read as ordinary speech rather than profanity.
The filter was built by transcribing every English voice line, matching against a maintained wordlist, and verifying each spoken edit and each text replacement against the game's own files before release; the combined audio and text result was confirmed in-game, with censored combat-bark subtitles displaying correctly and no crashes. It runs entirely on your machine — no internet connection and no AI generation at apply time — and backs up your original files automatically before writing anything, so you can restore the unmodified game at any point through the app or Steam's file-verification. Nothing else is altered: the story, the voice performances, the music, the gameplay, and every non-English locale are exactly as Arkane shipped them, and saves, achievements, and Deathloop's asynchronous Julianna-invasion layer are not modified, because the filter only edits local audio and text bytes.
What Was Changed
- 1,046 English voice lines: the flagged word is silenced while the rest of the line and the performance stay intact. Voice is re-encoded to the game's original format at the same clip length, so timing is unchanged.
- On-screen English text: 319 censors in the game's string table plus 820 across the scene and combat-bark subtitles — each flagged word is replaced in place with same-length asterisks, so layout and length are unchanged.
- Sentence structure, punctuation, fonts, and audio length are all preserved — no UI re-layout and no audio drift.
What Was NOT Changed
The story, voice performances, music, and gameplay are exactly as Arkane shipped them — only the flagged English words change. Non-English text and audio are left alone, and saves, achievements, and the asynchronous-invasion layer are not modified (the filter only edits local audio and text bytes).
