About this filter
Grand Theft Auto V Enhanced is Rockstar's 2025 next-gen rebuild of GTA V — a separate Steam app and install from the older "Legacy" build, running the same story on the RAGE Gen9 engine. The writing is unchanged from the game Rockstar always made: three career criminals, constant strong language across mission cutscenes, street chatter, police radio, and talk-radio stations. For streamers who don't want to bleep audio on the fly, for households where the game gets played with family in earshot, or for players who'd simply rather not hear the F-word and slurs in nearly every line, this filter is an optional, personal toggle on a copy of the game you already own. It changes nothing for anyone else.
The filter covers both what you hear and what you read, English only. On audio it silences 34,885 individual profanity instances across 25 of Enhanced's audio banks — story dialogue, ambient and pedestrian speech, cutscenes, talk radio, and the police scanner — with each flagged word dropped to silence while the rest of the line plays at full length. On text it replaces 11,260 profanity instances in subtitles and on-screen text across two story-text files with full-word asterisks and no first-letter hint. The categories handled are the F-word, S-word, B-word, A-word, D-word, religious oaths, and racial slurs, and the installer lets you pick any combination of Strong, Medium, Mild, and Blasphemy rather than forcing an all-or-nothing filter.
The filter was built with a clean-room, pure-Python toolkit written specifically for Enhanced's Gen9 RAGE format — it reads your own game's encryption keys from your installed copy and re-creates the edits locally; it ships no Rockstar files of its own. Voiced lines were located by transcribing the game's dialogue and flagging profanity word by word, then re-encoding each affected clip with only the offending audio muted; written profanity was matched and masked directly in the game's text tables. Both the audio muting and the category-selective toggle were confirmed in real gameplay before release. Nothing else changes: the story, missions, voice acting, music, gameplay, saves, and achievements are exactly as Rockstar shipped them, your original files are backed up so the filter can be removed at any time, non-English text and audio are left alone, and GTA Online is not affected — this is a single-player Story Mode modification only.
What Was Changed
- Spoken dialogue: 34,885 profanity instances silenced across 25 audio banks (story dialogue, ambient and pedestrian speech, cutscenes, talk radio, police scanner). Each flagged word drops to silence; the rest of the line plays normally.
- Written text: 11,260 profanity instances in subtitles and on-screen text across two story-text files, replaced with **** (full-word, no first-letter hint).
- Categories covered: the F-word, S-word, B-word, A-word, D-word, religious oaths, and racial slurs.
- Choose what to censor: the installer lets you pick which categories to apply — Strong, Medium, Mild, Blasphemy, or any combination — instead of an all-or-nothing filter. Change your selection any time; the installer restores the originals and re-applies automatically.
What Was NOT Changed
GTA V Enhanced is rated Mature 17+ (ESRB M / PEGI 18) and this filter does not change that. It only reduces profanity — intense violence, drug use, sexual content, and strong adult themes are completely untouched. This is the same M-rated game with much less swearing, not a family-friendly or kid-safe version. Coverage is best-effort: some cinematic cutscene dialogue and DLC/Online content were not filtered, and a meaningful amount of profanity likely remains elsewhere. The story, missions, voice performances, music, licensed radio songs, saves, achievements, and gameplay are exactly as Rockstar shipped them. Non-English text and audio are untouched. GTA Online is not affected — this filter only touches Story Mode files.
