About this filter

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is CD PROJEKT RED's sprawling, fully voiced English RPG, and its writing is famous for being blunt. Geralt, the sorceresses, the bandits, and the bar-room crowds all swear freely, and because the game delivers its dialogue through both spoken voice-over and on-screen subtitles, that strong language reaches you on two channels at once. The world is also frank about nudity and shows graphic combat aftermath. This filter is for players who want the whole of that story, the cast, and the choices, but would rather not have the coarsest language coming through on either channel, and who prefer the more explicit visuals toned down. It suits people sharing a screen with family, streaming to a broad audience, or who simply want a cleaner read and listen while everything else about the game stays as written. The work covers the English release only.

The filter works across audio, text, and visuals. On the audio side, 2,704 English voice clips that contained profanity have the single flagged word replaced by silence, applied with word-level precision so the rest of the spoken line and the performance play normally at the original length and lip-sync. On the text side, 2,438 English subtitle and menu entries have the flagged word masked with same-length asterisks, leaving the surrounding sentence and punctuation untouched. The categories covered are the F-word, S-word, B-word, A-word, D-word, and religious oaths, and the pass is context-aware so literal and place-name uses are left to read and play normally. The visual layer clothes or robes nude characters using the game's own garments and swaps in CD PROJEKT RED's own covered art and meshes, including the censored versions originally produced for the game's Japanese release, and replaces some of the most graphic wounds, corpses, and decals with the game's own censored equivalents.

The patch was built and verified against game version 4.04 (build 4.0.0.103190, the next-gen edition) by reading the game's own English text and voice data, generating the cleaned subtitles and muted audio, and assembling the covered visuals from the game's own censored assets. The audio mute preserves each clip's exact byte length so timing and lip-sync stay correct, and every surface was confirmed in-game: censored text rendering cleanly, flagged voice lines going silent at the right moment, and nude or graphic scenes showing their covered versions. The scope is deliberately narrow. The story, the quests, the writing, the voice performances, the music, and the gameplay are exactly as CD PROJEKT RED shipped them; only the flagged English words and the explicit visuals change. Combat, gameplay blood, dark themes, and other mature content stay in place, non-English text and audio are left alone, and saves remain compatible. The filter is a free, reversible overlay you apply to a copy of the game you already own, and removing it restores the original experience.

One-click Windows and Steam Deck installer apps are also available as alternate downloads on the same NexusMods page, for players who prefer not to copy files in manually.

What Was Changed

  • English on-screen text: 2,438 subtitle and menu entries that contained profanity have the flagged word masked with same-length asterisks (****). Installed as an optional mod overlay, and your own game text files are never touched.
  • English voice-over: 2,704 spoken clips that contained profanity have the flagged word replaced by silence. The mute is word-level; the rest of the line and the performance play normally, at the original length and lip-sync, applied to your own installed voice files (backed up first).
  • Nudity: nude characters (courtesans, bathhouse figures, and others) are clothed or robed using the game's own garments, and explicit body textures and meshes are replaced with the game's own covered versions (originally made by CD PROJEKT RED for the game's Japanese release).
  • Gore: some of the most graphic wounds, corpses, and decals are replaced with the game's own censored versions.
  • Profanity categories covered: the F-word, S-word, B-word, A-word, D-word, and religious oaths.

What Was NOT Changed

The story, quests, writing, and voice performances are completely intact; only individual profane words are silenced and explicit visuals covered; everything around them is unchanged. Combat, gameplay blood, dark themes, alcohol and substance use, and other mature content are untouched. This filter does not make the game family-friendly or kid-safe; The Witcher 3 is rated MATURE 17+ / PEGI 18 and stays that way. Music, sound effects, gameplay, saves, and progression are unmodified. Non-English text and audio are left alone.
