About this filter

Uncharted 4: A Thief's End and Uncharted: The Lost Legacy are cinematic, heavily-voiced Naughty Dog action-adventures — banter, combat barks, and dramatic dialogue carry a steady stream of English profanity across both games. This filter quiets the flagged words without touching the story or the performances, which helps streamers capturing footage, households where the room shouldn't hear every line, and anyone who'd simply rather play without it.

The Windows installer covers both games in full: 6,095 text censors in the collection's shared subtitle and menu data, plus 5,623 voice clips (3,335 in Uncharted 4, 2,288 in The Lost Legacy) with only the flagged word silenced in each line, including the collection's 7.1 / multichannel dialogue. The separate Steam Deck (native Linux) installer silences the same 5,623 voice clips but does not touch subtitles or menus — that gap is a platform limitation, not an oversight, and is called out clearly above.

Both installers ship zero files from Uncharted: a small app re-creates the edits on your own installed copy, using the collection's own text and audio tools, and backs up every file it touches before changing anything. Both were verified against the shipped build and played through on both titles after applying the filter — Windows end to end (text and audio, including the 7.1 lines), Steam Deck end to end for its audio-only scope. Everything else — the story, the performances, the pacing, the gameplay — is untouched.

What Was Changed

  • English on-screen text (Windows installer, both games): 6,095 censors in the collection's shared subtitle and menu text (25 in the common text, 3,789 in subtitles, 2,281 in systemic subtitle text) — same-length asterisks replace flagged words (e.g. a line with the D-word becomes "Can't no one get the **** permits"). This text is shared between Uncharted 4: A Thief's End and The Lost Legacy, so one installer pass covers both titles.
  • English voice-over (Windows installer, both games): 5,623 voice clips silenced — 3,335 in Uncharted 4: A Thief's End, 2,288 in The Lost Legacy — including previously-broken 7.1 / multichannel lines. Only the flagged word in each clip is muted; the rest of the line and the performance play back normally, at the same clip length.
  • Choose what gets filtered: the installer offers four categories — Strong, Medium, Mild, and Religious Oaths (blasphemy used as a curse) — all on by default, so the counts above are maximums, not fixed totals. You can change your selection any time; the app restores your originals first, then re-applies the new choice.
  • Steam Deck (native Linux) installer: the same 5,623 voice clips are silenced across both games. This build is audio only — see What's Not Changed.

What Was NOT Changed

The story, voice performances, music, and gameplay in both Uncharted 4: A Thief's End and The Lost Legacy are exactly as Naughty Dog shipped them — only the flagged English words change. Non-English text and audio are left alone (English only, single-player only). On the Steam Deck installer specifically, subtitles and menu text are NOT touched — that build silences audio only, because the collection's on-screen text lives in an archive compressed with a Windows-only codec that cannot run on native Linux; use the Windows installer for full text and audio coverage. Saves and achievements are not modified by either installer.
