About this filter
Vanquish is a fast, sci-fi third-person cover shooter from Platinum Games, built on the studio's own engine and originally released in 2010 before arriving on PC through Steam in 2017. Its English voice track leans heavily on military banter: scripted story dialogue between Sam Gideon and Elena Ivanova, short combat callouts barked by marines mid-firefight, and longer event cutscenes that carry the plot between battles. That register means a fair amount of spoken profanity surfaces during ordinary play, often in the middle of intense action where you cannot easily skip past it. This filter is for anyone who wants Vanquish's frantic combat and story intact but would rather the strongest English language not come through the speakers, whether that is a parent sharing the game, a streamer, or a player who simply prefers a cleaner audio track.
This is an English-only audio filter covering 108 mute points across three kinds of voice content. It silences the flagged word in 65 English voice lines of scripted dialogue and combat callouts while the rest of each line plays at normal volume. It silences 25 short marine combat callouts in full, each clip that carried the F-word, B-word, A-word, or a religious oath, because the game's audio codec does not allow a clean mid-word edit on those without re-encoding to a format the game cannot play. And it places a narrow, roughly one-second silence around 18 cutscene profanity spans across 12 event cutscenes, leaving the surrounding dialogue untouched. Music, sound effects, ambient audio, and clip lengths are all left exactly as they were, so timing and pacing are unchanged.
The work was built and verified per-clip rather than by blanket processing. Flagged words were located by transcribing the English voice and cutscene audio, and each edit was applied as a targeted byte-level silence with the original files preserved as backups before any change was written and confirmed afterward. The story, the voice performances, the music, the sound effects, and the gameplay are exactly as Platinum Games shipped them; only the flagged English words change. Non-English audio in Japanese, French, German, Italian, and Spanish is left alone, and your saves and achievements are not affected. One note on subtitles: this release does not modify Vanquish's on-screen subtitle text, so with subtitles on a flagged word can still appear even when the audio is silent, and playing with subtitles off is recommended.
What Was Changed
- 65 English voice lines (scripted dialogue and combat callouts): the flagged word is silenced while the rest of the line plays at normal volume.
- 25 short marine combat callouts: each clip that contained the F-word, B-word, A-word, or religious oaths is silenced in full, because the game's audio codec doesn't allow a mid-word edit without re-encoding to a format the game can't play.
- 18 cutscene profanity spans across 12 event cutscenes: a narrow, roughly one-second silence is placed around each flagged word, and the surrounding dialogue plays normally.
- 108 mute points in total. Music, sound effects, and ambient audio are untouched, and clip lengths are preserved so timing is unchanged.
What Was NOT Changed
The story, voice performances, music, sound effects, and gameplay are exactly as Platinum Games shipped them — only the flagged English words change. Non-English audio (Japanese, French, German, Italian, Spanish) is left alone. On-screen subtitle text is not changed: Vanquish stores it in proprietary container files this release does not modify, so with subtitles on a flagged word can still appear on screen even when the audio is silent — playing with subtitles off is recommended. Saves and achievements are not affected.
